Textiles at Black Rock [archieved]

27th of November 10.30 -12.30 AM

Share in an afternoon with the artist Caroline Stealey learning about her practice as a textile artist. We will be exploring a ‘sense-of- place’ at Black Rock through photography and drawing. Black Rock sits between the two Severn bridges where an intriguing mix of abandoned man-made structures and rubble meets with the tidal forces of the river Severn. We will be entwining with natural textiles and found sea-glass, stones, pebbles and discovering how this connects us to a ‘sense-of-place’.

“The work I make is influenced by place, nature and historical events. I use maps and old historical documents for reference, and build layers of marks, usually with textiles and mixed media” – Caroline Stealey

Find out more about Found Drawings Mike Pruett as inspired by the artist and lecturer at the University West of England Lucy Ward (the discoverer of Found Drawings). Found drawings are the traces of marks left by natural phenomenon. We will spend the afternoon wandering around this 15th century estate, collecting found drawings in any media you bring. Snap, draw, stitch, frottage, paint, dance, arrange and contribute in your own small way (please bring your own materials).

What is a found drawing? http://www.severnsideart.co.uk/what-is-a-found-drawing/

These findings will be added to a collaborative piece of work for our forthcoming Severnside Art Collective Exhibition (please keep images to 14.8 x 21.0mm / 5.8 x 8.3 inch if you wish to submit your found drawing).
