Jane O’Leary is an artist working mainly in digital machine embroidery.
Working from her own photographs, her embroideries are intensively stitched using a computerised embroidery machine, sometimes without a background fabric, and reflect her interest in the built environment and man-made objects. Although the designs are carefully planned beforehand, she will spontaneously intervene while the machine is running to disrupt the flow and remove, adjust or repeat parts of the image. Larger works are constructed by painstakingly lining up and joining small sections of embroidery.
Digital embroidery, mixed media.
